2 suspects in graduation shooting appear in court
JACKSON, Mo. (KBSI) – Two of the men who face charges in connection to a shooting at the Show Me Center Sunday appeared in court Thursday.
Kris E. Owens and Christopher J. Owens appeared in court via video.
Two face charges in connection with the shooting that happened at the Show Me Center during the Cape Central graduation ceremony on Sunday.
It was held in the Cape Girardeau County Courthouse in Jackson.
Judge Frank Miller Emmanuel is presiding over the case.
The prosecuting attorney is Mark James.
The judge read the charges against Owens.
Kris E. Owens is charged with armed criminal action, assault first-degree or attempt – serious physical injury and unlawful use of a weapon – Subsection 10 – carries loaded weapon into school, bus, premises, function.
Owens was arrested on an active warrant related to the May 19 shooting at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau. The warrant for Owens charged him with assault in the first degree, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. That no bond warrant had previously been issued by Judge Frank Miller on May 20.
Christopher J. Owens also faces charges related to the case. He was arrested for an active warrant related to the shooting. The warrant for Christopher Owens was issued for the charge of sex offender present within five hundred feet of a school-related activity. At the time of his arrest at the felony traffic stop, police say Christopher Owens had a fully loaded 9mm gun magazine on him In addition, police say Christopher Owens admitted to possessing a 9mm handgun recovered from the vehicle.
Both are due back in court on May 30th, 2024.
