14-year-old boy in custody after 3 attempted business burglaries in Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (KBSI) – A 14-year-old boy faces attempted burglary and resisting charges after a door to a business in Mount Vernon was damaged.
Mount Vernon police officers responded to an alarm at Thrive Dispensary at 800 S 45th Street on June 12 around 11:44 p.m.
They found damage to a door.
At 12:29 a.m. officers responded to an alarm at Smoke Smart at 410 S 27th Street and discovered damage to a door.
Officers obtained video footage and a description of the suspect.
At 12:41 a.m., an officer saw someone matching the description of the suspect walking from CBD Wellness Center at 3300 Broadway where damage was later found.
Police say the suspect began running from the officer, got onto a bicycle and pedaled away from officers.
Police say the suspect later got off the bicycle and began running through a residential area where officers chased him.
He was arrested.
Police say the suspect was a 14-year-old boy who was on probation for previous crimes and out past the court mandated curfew.
Police say he was connected to the three attempted burglaries at the business.
He was detained at a juvenile detention center.
