How to stay cool in hot temperatures
CAPE GIRARDEAU Mo. (KBSI) – The head index may impact the vulnerable in the FOX23 viewing area.
“We’re very concerned about everyone in Missouri the more vulnerable population, including older adults, younger children, who can’t regulate their own temperatures as easily as others,” said Elizabeth Semkiw, manager at Missouri Department Health and Services. “Also anyone who is outside for an extended period of time working outdoors.”
Semkiw offers some suggestions on what you should do indoors to keep the heat out.
“Another important tip is when the temperatures gets as high as this if for some reason you don’t have air conditioning, you don’t want to use fans indoors because fans can actually draw heat to your body. Actually don’t allow you to cool down. So it can actually make the situation worst. So, we don’t recommend fans if the indoor temperature is more than 90 degrees,” she said.
Jordan Bartels is a sales representative at Newbridge Retirement. He explains what they doto keep the residents cool and safe.
“We have issued a heat advisory for our residents and in our memory care,” Bartels said. “W have locked all exterior doors. We have a courtyard but obviously it’s too hot to be out there right now so hopefully when the weather cools down here shortly the residents can go back outside and enjoy that courtyard in our senior living. We have actually increased our indoor activities.”
