MARION, IL. (KBSI) – The Global War on Terror brings its Wall of Remembrance in Marion Illinois as it continues to travel the country honoring and remembering veterans who lost their lives fighting for this country and its freedom.

The Wall of Remembrance is currently at the Oasis Powersports in Marion, and will be open to the public to visit until the afternoon Monday, July 1.

Michael Gasperini is a board member with the organization and he tells Fox23 that the names on the board are “all of our brothers and sisters on his wall that got killed during the Middle East conflicts and the reason it’s called the global wall of remembrance is it goes all the way back to 1983 when the bombing happened so those service members are on the wall that got killed during the evolution every name that’s on there got killed during some kind of action against us as Americans.”

Sam Adkins and Callahan Roper are two football players for the Marion high school who helped set up the event, and they told Fox23 about what it meant to them to help set up the Wall of Remembrance.

Sam Adkins said “it always feels great to do something like this for community like helping Civic center or even helping with these vets it always matter what the occasion.”

Callahan Roper said “anytime the team can help out especially veterans or our community . It’s very great opportunity for us to give back and give to them.”

The wall is a moving tribute — 120 feet long — symbolizing honor .. Strength … Courage … Loyalty and family values of America.

Gasperini concluded by talking about one of the most important parts of the wall and how you can include a lost veteran you love. “One side of the wall has over 10,000 names on it, the other side has all the history. There’s two panels that are really special on that wall too their blank panels . And one thing that you’ve probably heard about is 22 veterans a day die so if you had a veteran that committed suicide you can write their name on there and they will continue to travel because of the demons and devils they may face when coming back from a combat environment and make sure that they are always going to be remembered as well”
