New fire truck coming to town Thursday in Scott City

SCOTT CITY Mo. (KBSI) – Two and a half years in the waiting for the Scott City Fire Department as they ordered a new fire truck back in 2022.

Shawn Jackson the Chief of the Fire Department says that this truck was needed as a replacement for a 2003 truck that got totaled.

“Right now, we’re running out of our 1993 truck. That’s actually a reserve truck so once we get this new truck in, we’ll be able to take that truck back to reserve status and the purpose of the reserve truck is that way when we have to take one out of service for maintenance stuff like that, we have a back of truck deal to do that with.”

The truck is being made locally from Precision Fire Apparatus in Missouri.

Jackson says he likes that he is buying a new truck from a local company rather than a big manufacturing facility so he can customize the truck to meet the needs of the Scott City Fire Department.

“The goal is to try to keep a truck in about 10 years as your Frontline apparatus and then move them to reserve status and they can last about another 20 to 30 years in reserve status due to today’s market with the trucks costing so much. It’s really hard to do that but that’s the ultimate goal. This particular truck cost about $700,000. If we actually ordered that today it would be about $1 million what they told me last week.”

The Scott City Fire Department cannot wait for this Thursday, September 26 as they were expecting this truck to come in April and it got pushed back to late September.

The Fire Department thinks this truck will be a good asset as they receive about 1200 calls a year for volunteers and are excited to see what the citizens of Scott City think of it as well.

“We’re going to do a parade coming through town on its first trip to town. We invited everybody to come out and take a look at it and you’ll see we’re able to offer this new truck and the tools and stuff you’ll be able to carry in and how we can best serve our citizens in the area.”

The new fire truck will be driving around the town of Scott City on Thursday September 26 at 5 p.m.

The Scott City Fire Department is opening up the station for the citizens to come and take a tour of the truck after the parade on Thursday.
