Problematic levee still at risk for failure

ST. FRANCOIS COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – Some areas south of St. Louis are seeing evacuation orders and school closures after the area received around 6 inches of rain fall.

According to St. Francois County Emergency Management they are still closely monitoring the Iron Mountain Lake Spillway as it is still possible the problematic levee could break and flood surrounding areas. They say water levels have come down over night, but they will still continue to monitor the spillway until the rain stops for the area.

They ask that those who must drive in the area to use caution and not to pass any barricades as these are in place to protect citizens.

If a road is blocked off even if it looks safe ‘turn around don’t drown.’

A couple dozen houses near the spill way were asked to voluntarily evacuate but were not forced to evacuate.
