What’s next with Missouri’s Amendment 3
MISSOURI (KBSI) – Missouri was the first state in the nation to face a total abortion ban after Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022. It’s now one of the first to end a total ban on abortion.
Amendment three – which will take effect on December 5, 2024 – is not only about abortion. The amendment is to protect the right to reproductive freedom, this includes access to contraceptives without governmental interference.
The amendment does allow abortion to be restricted or banned after fetal viability except to protect the life or health of the woman.
Susan Klein, executive director of the pro-life organization Missouri Right to Life, says these are not the results they wanted but it’s not the end of their mission.
“As we move forward in Missouri, it is our goal to help women in difficult situations so that we can make abortion and other life-changing decisions unthinkable and families can grow and thrive in the state of Missouri,” Klein said.
