Updates on TikTok’s delay of getting banned

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – It’s been a dramatic two days for a popular social media app. Less than 14 hours after it went dark, TikTok announced its grand return.

The app has been controversial in the U.S. Government because of its partial Chinese ownership.

The House of Representatives, President Biden, and the Supreme Court deciding to ban TikTok today if it wasn’t sold to an American company because of alleged national security risks.

Millions of people were begging for the app to be saved, as many Americans use it to promote their businesses or become full time influencers.

Trump now vowing to pass a 90-day extension when he takes office giving additional time for a sale to go through.

So how do our viewers feel about TikTok and all of the recent events? We hear from one woman that she has learned a lot from the app and is happy her recipes and saved videos will not be lost.

“I’ve only been using TikTok for the last couple of years. When I first heard of TikTok, I associated it with the younger generation. I thought it was just something teenagers would use to make dancing videos. I usually saw a lot of those types of things where girls who are younger would get on there and just kind of make some silly videos and things like that then a friend of mine, she’s my same age in our middle ages. She was explaining to me that it could be used for other things: recipes cleaning just a lot of good helpful material out there that would be useful for us, so I took a stab at trying it one day and I did enjoy that there were a lot of interesting things out there that I enjoyed learning about.”

Trump says he plans on issuing an executive order after his inauguration to temporarily delay the ban. He is also proposing that the U.S. could take a 50 percent ownership position in TikTok.
