Perry County students successfully lobby for statewide Gifted Education Awareness Week

PERRYVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — Missouri is celebrating its first Gifted Education Awareness Week, thanks to the efforts of students and a teacher from the Perry County School District 32.

Students in Phoebe Pohlman’s gifted education classes, ranging from fourth to sixth grade, successfully lobbied the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to designate a week for recognition.

The students, from Perryville Elementary and Perry County Middle Schools, used their skills to create a persuasive presentation, resulting in the second week of February being set aside for the celebration.

Gifted education is available through high school in District 32, with Karen Krieger serving the middle school population.
