Kentucky State Police respond to over 12,000 calls amid flood and winter storm

KENTUCKY (KBSI) – Kentucky State Police (KSP) telecommunicators have answered 12,508 calls for service since Feb. 15, with personnel continuing to assist with water rescues and welfare checks in affected areas. Fortunately, KSP is not currently investigating any missing persons cases related to the recent severe weather.

In a notable incident, the KSP Aircraft Branch located a dock with 15 boats that had broken away and was drifting down the Kentucky River in Mercer County.

Quick action by the flight crew and first responders on the ground prevented the dock from colliding with a bridge.

KSP pilots also assisted FEMA officials in assessing flood damage in Eastern Kentucky, which could potentially lead to a disaster declaration.

As winter weather continues to impact the state, KSP has responded to 59 non-injury crashes, 3 injury crashes, and 69 motorist assists since 8 p.m. on Feb. 18.

A crash on I-24 in Lyon County involved a commercial vehicle rear-ending a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet snowplow.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution, slow down, and give snowplows ample space to operate.

KSP personnel remain committed to safeguarding Kentuckians, working tirelessly to ensure public safety.
