Pulaski County deputies respond to report of suspicious device

WAYNESVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — A potentially hazardous item was discovered at a Pulaski County residence on Saturday, prompting a response from local authorities and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit.

Deputies from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a home on Columbia Road at approximately 1:17 p.m. after the homeowners, Kyle and Jaden Wright, reported finding what appeared to be a grenade while sorting through belongings in a trailer.

The Wrights’ grandfather, a World War II veteran, may have acquired the item during his service, Jaden Wright said. Kyle Wright, a military veteran, suspected the device was authentic.

The couple secured the area and contacted authorities. Deputies responded and coordinated with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit at Fort Leonard Wood.

Staff Sergeant Jimmy Warren and other EOD team members conducted an X-ray of the device and determined it was inert, with no explosive material present. The device was then safely returned to the Wright family.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the Fort Leonard Wood EOD Unit for their response and professionalism.
