Carbondale police arrest suspect in battery incident

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Chanton L. Lee, 21, of Elizabethtown, Illinois, was arrested March 24, 2025, on charges of mob action and aggravated battery stemming from a March 4 incident.
City of Carbondale police officers responded to the 600 block of South Illinois Avenue at 11:33 p.m. on March 4, finding the victim unconscious on the ground with serious injuries. The victim was taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for treatment.
Lee was identified as a suspect during the investigation, and detectives obtained a Jackson County arrest warrant. He was arrested at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and will be incarcerated pending a detention hearing.
Two other suspects, James M. Shannahan, 19, of Carbondale, and a 17-year-old juvenile male from Carbondale, were previously arrested in connection with the incident.
Shannahan was charged with mob action and aggravated battery, while the juvenile was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated battery.
