Franklin County deputies arrest couple in connection with stolen camper

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) – On April 8, 2025, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office received information about the possible location of a stolen camper, which had been reported stolen on April 5.
Deputies responded to a rural area north of Benton and located the camper, occupied by Mark S. Hefner, 46, and Kimberly D. Hefner, 39.
As a result of the investigation, both Mark and Kimberly Hefner were arrested and charged with multiple offenses.
Mark Hefner faces charges including theft over $10,000, a Class 3 felony; unlawful defacing of a manufacturer’s identification number, a Class 2 felony; unlawful possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a Class X felony; and unlawful possession of methamphetamine, a Class 1 felony. He also faces charges of bringing contraband into a penal institution, a Class 1 felony; unlawful possession of a hypodermic needle, a Class A misdemeanor; aggravated unlawful use of a weapon – firearm, a Class 4 felony; possession of a firearm without a FOID – revoked, a Class 3 felony; and criminal damage to property, a Class 4 felony.
Kimberly Hefner faces charges including theft over $10,000, a Class 3 felony; unlawful defacing of a manufacturer’s identification number, a Class 2 felony; unlawful possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a Class X felony; and unlawful possession of methamphetamine, a Class 1 felony. She also faces charges of bringing contraband into a penal institution, a Class 1 felony; unlawful possession of a hypodermic needle, a Class A misdemeanor; possession of firearm/ammo without a FOID, a Class 3 felony; and criminal damage to property, a Class 4 felony.
The deputies who responded to the call were praised for their professionalism and dedication to recovering stolen property and seizing a significant amount of methamphetamine and a firearm.
The defendants in this case are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
