Carbondale Electric Aggregation Program offers savings for residents on energy bills
CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) – The City of Carbondale, in conjunction with 94 other communities, participates in the Southern Illinois Aggregation Partnership, a buying group that negotiates electric rates.
Through this partnership, the city has secured a contract with Homefield Energy, providing residents with a fixed electric rate of $0.11789 per kilowatt-hour from June 1, 2025, to June 1, 2026.
This rate is lower than Ameren’s price-to-compare rate of $0.12547 per kilowatt-hour, effective June 1 to September 30, 2025.
Residents will receive letters from Homefield Energy with details on the new rate. Those who wish to participate in the city’s negotiated aggregation rate don’t need to take any action.
However, those who want to opt out must do so by May 28. Instructions will be provided in the letter, or residents can call Homefield Energy at 866-694-1262 to opt out. There are no penalties or early termination fees for opting out after the deadline.
The opt-out period applies to eligible residents, including those currently enrolled with Homefield Energy, residents served by Ameren’s basic generation service, and those who previously opted out or moved into the city.
Residents with solar panels participating in Ameren’s net metering program may also want to opt out to avoid losing banked kilowatt-hours.
