Benton man charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer following traffic stop

BENTON, Ill., (KBSI) — A Franklin County sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop in Benton on May 29 at approximately 8:50 p.m.

During the stop, the driver, Jonathan D. Eickelman, 52, of Benton, was found to have an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in Franklin County Court.

When informed of the warrant, Eickelman allegedly resisted arrest, pulling away from deputies and struggling against their attempts to take him into custody.

Eickelman was eventually subdued and taken to the Franklin County Jail, where he was charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer, unlawful possession of methamphetamine and resisting a peace officer.

Benton police assisted in the arrest.

Eickelman is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
