Paducah Riverfront Project enters next phase with pier construction set to begin June 9
PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — The next phase of the Riverfront Infrastructure Improvement Project is set to begin June 9, with crews mobilizing equipment for construction of a riverboat excursion pier and walkways.
The pier, located downstream of the Broadway floodwall entrance, will enhance the experience and accessibility for riverboat passengers.
Jim Smith Contracting will remove old sidewalks and landings, while C.J. Mahan will construct the pier, with materials and equipment arriving by barge.
To facilitate the work, one lane of Water Street between Broadway and Jefferson Street will be closed to traffic starting June 9. Crews will work Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m.-6 p.m.
This phase of the project is expected to last from June to December and will include pile driving, which will start around June 16 and last four to six weeks.
The city has a construction noise waiver to accommodate the project. Most areas, including the Foot of Broadway and Schultz Park, will remain open during construction.
The $10.4 million project, funded by a BUILD grant and state funds, is expected to take 18-24 months to complete.
