Cape Girardeau earns Missouri Blue Shield community designation
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The City of Cape Girardeau has been recognized as a Missouri Blue Shield Community, a distinction awarded by Gov. Mike Kehoe and the State of Missouri.
The designation acknowledges the city’s exceptional commitment to public safety, innovation in crime reduction and strong community partnerships.
Cape Girardeau exceeded rigorous criteria, including investments in law enforcement infrastructure, technology and community engagement programs. The city’s police department was recognized for its leadership in proactive policing, mental health integration and regional collaboration on violent crime prevention.
“We are deeply honored to receive the Blue Shield designation,” said Mayor Stacy Kinder. “This recognition affirms the dedication and effort of our police department.”
The designation opens up grant funding for training and equipment for the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
The city’s efforts include the opening of a new police headquarters, implementation of a gunshot detection system and expansion of community engagement programs.
“Our officers work to prevent crime, build trust with the community and bring innovative solutions to public safety challenges,” said Police Chief Adam Glueck.
The city plans to invest in a Real Time Crime Center and expand public safety infrastructure and capabilities.
