Severe storms Likely Wednesday afternoon and evening
Wednesday, an ENHANCED and SLIGHT risk for severe weather is in place across the viewing area. A line of storms will move through Wednesday evening into Wednesday night. The main concerns will be winds up to 75+ mph, large hail up to tennis balls and a few tornadoes possible. Storm timing: 2pm Wednesday- 2am Thursday morning.
The GRAF model: Storm initiation could start as early as 2pm in parts of SE Missouri. The bulk of the severe weather will be from 4pm-9pm. Wednesday afternoon and evening, a front will move in from the west and move into parts of SE Missouri. This line of storms will have strong winds, large hail and a few tornadoes possible in the evening time. The line of storms will gradually weaken through Wednesday night. These storms will lead to flooding across the region as well.
The HRRR model: isolated Storms developing around 3-4pm in parts of SE Missouri and Southern Illinois. These single cells will have the best potential for tornadoes and large hail. These single cells will move east into Western Kentucky by 6-7pm with the tornado and large hail threat continuing. By 9-10pm, storms could redevelop in the middle of the heartland and be out by 2am.
A few tornadoes will be possible through Wednesday night.
Hail up to tennis ball size will be possible as well.
Winds up to 75+ mph will be likely with this line of storms Wednesday evening.
Rainfall totals through Wednesday night are ranging from 0.50″- 1.50″+. Rain showers and storms will have heavy downpours, which will lead to flash flooding across the region.
Wednesday morning, temperatures will be a few degrees warmer, in the lower 70s for all of us.
Southwest winds will be gusting to around 20+ mph through your Wednesday afternoon.
Wednesday, high temperatures will be a few degrees hotter in the upper 80s under mostly sunny skies. SW winds will be gusting up to 25 mph, which will help fuel storms by the evening.
There will be lots of moisture in the air Wednesday afternoon. dew points in the 70s will fuel storms quickly by the evening time.
