Perry County School District earns StormReady Designation
PERRYVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — The Perry County School District has earned the National Weather Service’s StormReady Supporter designation, recognizing its severe weather preparedness and communication efforts.
The designation was presented to Safety Director Garrett Schott during the June 11 Board of Education meeting.
To achieve StormReady Supporter status, the district demonstrated active partnership with local emergency management officials, a written severe weather plan, regular training and exercises, and effective communication methods.
Officer Schott worked with the National Weather Service office in Paducah to document the district’s eligibility for the designation. The district’s response to recent severe weather events, including January ice storms and a March 14 tornado, demonstrated its ability to respond effectively.
Christine Wielgos of the NWS praised the district’s efforts, noting it is the first in the region to achieve StormReady Supporter status.
