Scott City Mayor charged with misdemeanor assault

SCOTT CITY, Mo., (KBSI) – Norman Brant, the mayor of Scott City, Missouri, has been charged with misdemeanor assault in connection with an incident that occurred after a city council meeting in July.

The Scott County Prosecuting Attorney filed the fourth-degree assault charge against Brant on August 6, 2025. According to the probable cause statement, Brant is accused of grabbing and pushing a local business owner after the July 23 council meeting.

The alleged victim told authorities he attended the meeting to discuss flooding in the city that was impacting his business.

He claimed Brant told him it was none of his business, then allegedly assaulted him.

A review of camera footage appears to corroborate the victim’s account, capturing the conversation between Brant and the victim, as well as the alleged assault.

In Missouri, fourth-degree assault is considered a Class A or Class C misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 for a Class A misdemeanor, or up to 15 days in jail and a fine of up to $300 for a Class C misdemeanor.
