CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Most of Cape Girardeau is under a boil water advisory following a power failure Friday morning at the city’s water plant, officials said.
The advisory will remain in effect until 7 a.m. on Sept. 17 unless extended. Residents can view affected addresses, a map, and frequently asked questions online. Those in the advisory area who did not receive a text, call, or email notification are encouraged to register their address at www.cityofcape.org/pwalerts.
City officials said the electrical failure affected one of the three main power feeds to the Cape Girardeau Water Plant. Crews from Ameren UE and partner companies are on-site making repairs.
To maintain service, Water Plant No. 2 has been activated, with generators supplying backup power. Officials said all water storage tanks are full and water quality remains safe, but the advisory was issued out of an abundance of caution.
The city thanked residents for their patience as crews work to restore full power.
