CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) — Mercy Southeast will host a free community health event Oct. 11 to encourage residents to take a proactive approach to their health, officials announced.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Mercy Cancer Center, 789 S. Mount Auburn Road. Attendees will have access to free health screenings, demonstrations, educational materials and information on services offered through Mercy clinics, including primary care, orthopedics, sports medicine, therapy services, cardiovascular and thoracic care, cancer care and the Mercy Breast Center.
“Our goal with this event is simple: to encourage people to be proactive in their health and get the care they need when they need it,” said Simone Lampkin, director of the Mercy Cancer Center and event organizer. “Early detection saves lives, and it often starts with a routine visit to a primary care provider.”
This is the first year Mercy Southeast has hosted the event since joining the Mercy system. In addition to health resources, the Cape Girardeau Fire Department will provide fire safety demonstrations and an inflatable house for children. The American Red Cross will share information about upcoming blood drives.
The event will also feature giveaways, face painting, a photo booth and appearances by Southeast Missouri State University’s mascot, Rowdy the Redhawk, and Cape Catfish’s Captain Catfish.
The indoor-outdoor event will take place rain or shine and is open to residents of all ages across the region.
