DOWELL, Ill., (KBSI) — One person was killed and another injured in a two-motorcycle crash early Saturday morning in rural Jackson County.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the crash around 2:59 a.m. Oct. 11 on Dowell Road near Chammess Road.
Preliminary reports indicate that two motorcycles were traveling west on Dowell Road when one attempted to pass the other. The motorcycles, or their riders, made contact, causing one motorcycle to lose control and crash.
The driver of that motorcycle was ejected, sustained major injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other rider suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.
Deputies said alcohol impairment appears to be a contributing factor in the crash.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating. The Jackson County Ambulance Service, Dowell Fire Department, Elkville Fire Department, and the Jackson County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.
The roadway was closed for approximately two hours.
The names of those involved have not been released.
