GORDONVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) – A field fire near the intersection of State Highways 25 and 74 was contained Tuesday afternoon with assistance from multiple fire departments across the region.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., Station 1 received a landline report of a fire in a field near the highway intersection. Gordonville Fire Department units — including a brush truck, tanker 3614 and a command vehicle — responded immediately.

Upon arrival, crews encountered a rapidly spreading fire, fueled by high winds and dry conditions, threatening nearby fields to the north. Mutual aid was requested from the Cape Girardeau Fire Department and Delta Fire Protection District, and later from East County, Jackson Fire Rescue and Whitewater Fire Protection District as the fire jumped into an adjacent field.

Crews worked together to contain the blaze and extinguish remaining hotspots. The fire was determined to have been caused by embers spreading from another nearby fire.

No injuries were reported. Gordonville units returned to service around 4:30 p.m., and all mutual aid units were released.

The Gordonville Fire Department expressed gratitude to all assisting agencies for their support.
