CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The Cape Girardeau Fire Department announced this week that firefighters have begun training with new equipment designed to improve safety during motor vehicle crash responses.

The department recently acquired the Res-Q-Jack system, a tool used to stabilize and lift vehicles to protect both occupants and first responders during rescue operations.

As part of the training, firefighters used a station trash dumpster to simulate a vehicle, allowing crews to practice stabilization and lifting techniques in a controlled setting.

Officials said the new equipment will enhance the department’s ability to safely remove victims trapped in vehicles.
