Illinois man arrested on sexual assault, child pornography charges

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) — Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 22-year-old Mt. Vernon man on charges of criminal sexual assault and possession of child pornography.
The sheriff’s office said Michael W. McClanahan was taken into custody Dec. 20 following an investigation that began Dec. 5 after deputies received a complaint alleging McClanahan had threatened an adult woman.
During the investigation, detectives said they uncovered evidence that McClanahan had sexual contact with multiple underage females in Jefferson and Hamilton counties. Investigators obtained and served a search warrant for McClanahan’s electronic devices, where additional evidence was located during a forensic examination.
McClanahan was booked into the Jefferson County Jail, where he is being held pending a pretrial detention hearing.
