Kennett police warn residents of jury duty bond scam

KENNETT, Mo., (KBSI) — The Kennett Police Department is warning residents of a scam in which callers impersonate law enforcement officers and demand money under the threat of arrest.
Police said the scam involves someone claiming to be an officer and instructing victims to take $2,000 to a Walmart to post bond or face arrest for failure to appear for jury duty.
The department emphasized that legitimate law enforcement officers will not contact individuals directly to request money for bond, nor will they instruct anyone to send money through a retail store or similar service.
Residents who receive suspicious calls are encouraged to hang up and report the incident to local law enforcement.
