FRANKFORT, K., (KBSI) — President Donald Trump has approved an emergency disaster declaration for the state of Kentucky in response to a winter storm expected to impact the region this weekend.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear announced the approval on social media Saturday, saying the declaration means federal aid is now available to assist the state’s response efforts as snow and ice arrive.

“Good news, Kentucky — the President has approved an emergency disaster declaration for this weekend’s winter storm,” Beshear wrote in a Facebook post. “This will help us protect lives, and I am grateful for this crucial support.”

The declaration was issued ahead of forecasted hazardous conditions expected Saturday and Sunday. Federal assistance can provide resources to support state and local efforts during the storm.
