MURRAY, Ky. — The Murray Police Department has charged a former executive director of a local nonprofit following an investigation into an alleged theft.
Police said the investigation began in January 2026 at the request of a Murray-based nonprofit organization after the organization and an independent third party identified financial discrepancies during a leadership transition. Investigators determined that more than $50,000 had been taken from the organization.
As a result, Nathaniel Carter, 40, of Murray, the organization’s former executive director, was charged with 19 counts of theft by deception involving amounts between $1,000 and $10,000, and one count of theft by unlawful taking involving $10,000 to $1 million.
Police reminded the public that all individuals charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
