Massac County receives tentative property tax multiplier of 1.0000

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., (KBSI) — Illinois Department of Revenue has announced a tentative property assessment equalization factor of 1.0000 for Massac County, according to Director David Harris.

The equalization factor, also known as the “multiplier,” is used to ensure property assessments are consistent across counties, particularly in areas where taxing districts overlap.

State law requires property in Illinois to be assessed at one-third of its market value. Officials said Massac County assessments are currently at 33.20% of market value based on property sales from 2022 through 2024.

The factor applies to 2025 taxes payable in 2026 and matches the county’s multiplier from the previous year.

Officials said the tentative multiplier may change following actions by the county board of review or if additional data is submitted challenging the state’s assessment calculations. A public hearing will be held within 20 to 30 days after the tentative factor is published locally.

The department noted that changes to the multiplier do not directly determine property tax bills, which are set by local taxing districts. Instead, the multiplier helps determine each property owner’s share of the overall tax burden.
