DU QUOIN, Ill. (KBSI) — Fire officials in Du Quoin are warning residents of an increased wildfire risk Sunday afternoon from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., due to dry conditions and gusty winds.
According to the Du Quoin Fire Department, elevated wildfire conditions are expected between noon and 7 p.m. Relative humidity levels are forecast to drop between 25% and 35%, while south winds are expected to range from 10 to 15 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 30 miles per hour.
Officials say vegetation across much of the region remains dry due to ongoing moderate to severe drought conditions, increasing the risk of fires spreading quickly.
The fire department is discouraging outdoor burning and any activities that could create sparks or open flames during this time.
Residents are urged to report any wildfires to local law enforcement immediately.
