CHICAGO (KBSI) — Illinois is launching a new incentive aimed at promoting environmentally sustainable film and television production, becoming the first state in the nation to offer such a program.
Gov. JB Pritzker announced the initiative Tuesday, which provides an additional 5% tax credit to productions certified as environmentally sustainable through the Illinois Film Office.
Officials said the program is designed to encourage productions to reduce waste, lower emissions and use more sustainable materials and practices.
The announcement comes as Illinois’ film industry continues to expand, with production spending reaching $703 million in 2025 and supporting an estimated 18,000 jobs.
State leaders said the new incentive is expected to boost both the film industry and the state’s growing clean energy sector by increasing demand for environmentally friendly equipment and services.
Illinois officials said the program aims to position the state as a national leader in sustainable film production while continuing to attract major projects and investment.
