JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KBSI) — Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe has ordered the State Capitol dome to be lit teal from sunrise April 29 to sunrise April 30 in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Denim Day.
Officials said the lighting is intended to raise awareness, promote prevention efforts and support survivors of sexual violence.
“Sexual assault has a profound and lasting impact on individuals, families, and communities. Missouri stands with survivors,” Kehoe said in a statement.
Denim Day is observed nationwide as a show of support for survivors and to raise awareness about sexual violence and consent.
State officials said agencies and advocacy groups across Missouri are participating in education campaigns, prevention initiatives and community events throughout April.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services encouraged residents to support survivors by wearing denim, learning about prevention and connecting with local resources.
Officials said the efforts aim to increase awareness and strengthen support for victims across the state.
