CAMPBELL, Mo., (KBSI) — The Campbell Volunteer Fire Department spent more than 12 hours battling a large brush fire that threatened several structures along County Road 206.

Firefighters were dispatched to the fire around 10:45 p.m. and remained on scene until about noon the following day, according to the department.

Officials said crews also responded to a second fire in town during the incident while continuing efforts to contain the brush fire.

The department used three fire engines, made 21 water supply trips and used about 25,000 gallons of water during the response.

Firefighters also logged approximately 50 man-hours combating the blaze.

According to the department, the fire involved a 15-foot-deep gully filled with trees, logs, stumps and other debris that had accumulated over several years, making the fire difficult to fully extinguish.

The department said heavy equipment, including a tractor, excavator and bulldozer, was used to help contain the fire.

Campbell firefighters thanked the Malden Fire Department for assisting with manpower, as well as Aaron Green, Bill Bader and the City of Malden for providing equipment support during the response.
