Juvenile among 3 arrested in Carbondale shooting investigation

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Three people, including a juvenile from Harrisburg, were arrested following a shooting early Wednesday in Carbondale that left two people injured, police said.

Carbondale police responded at 3:46 a.m. May 13 to the 700 block of South Lewis Lane for a report of shots fired. Officers found one victim suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim was treated at the scene.

During the investigation, officers learned a second victim had arrived at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Police recovered two discarded firearms from the scene and determined property had been damaged during the incident. Investigators said the shooting stemmed from a dispute between known associates.

The investigation led Carbondale Police Department’s Special Response Team, with assistance from the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System, to execute a search warrant in the 400 block of South Lake Heights. A Civic Alert was issued during the operation.

As a result of the investigation, a 15-year-old from Harrisburg was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm. The juvenile was taken to a juvenile detention facility after being approved for detention. The juvenile’s identity was not released under the Illinois Juvenile Justice Act.

Police also arrested Brennan A. Gibbs, 21, of Marion, on a charge of mob action related to the initial altercation. Gibbs, who police said is currently on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections, was jailed in Saline County pending a detention hearing.

Reuben A. Gardet Jr., 37, of Carbondale, was also charged with mob action and booked into the Jackson County Jail pending a detention hearing.
