Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office warns residents about ongoing scam calls

PULASKI COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about ongoing scam calls from people falsely claiming to represent the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Stacy Ball said one resident recently received a call from someone claiming the person had missed federal jury duty for a murder trial and was being cited. The caller reportedly appeared calm and professional in an attempt to gain the victim’s trust.
According to the sheriff’s office, scammers often attempt to pressure victims into sending money through gift cards, Bitcoin, Venmo, Cash App, Western Union or other payment methods.
Officials emphasized that law enforcement agencies do not call residents demanding payment to avoid arrest or jail time.
The sheriff’s office urged residents to be cautious of unsolicited calls requesting money or personal information and encouraged people to speak with elderly family members and neighbors, who are often targeted in scams.
Anyone who receives a suspicious call is encouraged to hang up immediately and contact the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office directly at 573-774-6196, ext. 2.
