Eight killed in Missouri traffic crashes over Memorial Day weekend

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., (KBSI) — The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported eight traffic fatalities during the 2026 Memorial Day holiday counting period.

The holiday reporting period began at 6 p.m. Friday, May 22, and ended at 11:59 p.m. Monday, May 25.

Troopers investigated 234 traffic crashes statewide, resulting in 99 injuries and eight deaths. The patrol also reported 107 driving while intoxicated arrests.

On Missouri waterways, troopers investigated four boating crashes involving six injuries. No boating fatalities or drownings were reported. Troopers also made seven boating while intoxicated arrests.

During the 2025 Memorial Day holiday counting period, the patrol investigated 203 traffic crashes involving three fatalities and 92 injuries. Statewide, four people died and 356 people were injured in 868 vehicle crashes during the 2025 holiday period.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol noted the 2026 fatality statistics remain preliminary and could change if additional crash deaths are reported.
