Inmate sentenced for assaulting Calloway County jail deputy jailer

CALLOWAY COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — An inmate has been sentenced to three years in prison after being convicted of assaulting a Calloway County Jail deputy jailer.
According to the Calloway County Jail, Chase Byerly was convicted in Calloway County Circuit Court of third-degree assault involving an inmate assault on a correctional employee, a Class D felony. He was also charged as a second-degree persistent felony offender.
The conviction stems from an assault that occurred inside the jail in May 2025.
Officials said Byerly was sentenced to three years of incarceration following his conviction. The jail noted that the charges for which Byerly was originally incarcerated were later dismissed.
In a news release, jail officials said the conviction demonstrates that assaults against correctional staff will be taken seriously and prosecuted. Officials also emphasized the challenges and risks deputy jailers face while maintaining safety and security within the facility.
