CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) — Community Counseling Center will host its second annual Thriving Together Community Behavioral Health + Wellness Conference on Wednesday, July 22, at the Show Me Center.

The free conference is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is open to the public, including community members and professionals outside the behavioral health field.

The event will focus on behavioral health and wellness topics, including mental health, substance use, suicide prevention, family dynamics, resilience and overall wellness. Attendees will hear from keynote speakers Darryl Strawberry and Bobby Henline, participate in breakout sessions and receive practical resources and strategies.

Strawberry is an eight-time Major League Baseball All-Star and four-time World Series champion who now shares his experiences with recovery, faith and purpose. Henline is a retired U.S. Army staff sergeant who survived an improvised explosive device attack during his fourth deployment to Iraq and now speaks about resilience, hope and healing.

“Last year’s inaugural Thriving Together conference exceeded every expectation we had with more than 400 community members joining us for a day that sparked real conversations about mental health and wellness,” Community Counseling Center CEO Wendy Ice said. “We’re honored to bring the community back together for a second year, and with voices as powerful as Darryl Strawberry and Bobby Henline on stage, we believe this year’s conference will leave an even greater impact.”

Admission is free, but registration is required because seating is limited.

Community Counseling Center is a nonprofit organization that has provided behavioral health services since 1974. The organization serves nearly 6,500 people annually across five southeast Missouri counties through 31 locations.
