Perryville schools briefly placed on lockdown during police pursuit

PERRYVILLE, Mo. (KBSI) — Perry County School District 32 was briefly placed on lockdown Monday after a police pursuit ended on the district’s campus.

According to District 32, Perryville police were pursuing a suspected stolen vehicle south on Main Street around **12:40 p.m.** when the driver turned onto Campus Drive and entered school property.

Officials said the suspect drove through campus parking lots and across the grass at Pirate Stadium, circling the field several times while searching for a way to escape. The vehicle then traveled up a walkway before reaching a dead end in a gravel lot near Old Senior High.

According to the district, the suspect got out of the vehicle and was immediately taken into custody by law enforcement.

District 32 said the campus lockdown was brief, and no injuries were reported.

“We are extremely relieved that everyone on our campus is safe today,” Superintendent Dr. Fara Jones said. “The swift action of our local law enforcement officers contained a very unpredictable, dangerous situation quickly. We cannot thank our local police and emergency personnel enough for their courage and immediate response in keeping our district protected.”
