1 dead after officer-involved shooting in Poplar Bluff

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (KBSI) – One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Poplar Bluff Monday night.
The Poplar Bluff Police Department tried to do a welfare check on a person who was lying in the road in the 1000 block of Park Ave. around 8:28 p.m. on Aug. 7.
Officers were told the person had an active warrant.
As the officer approached the person, he entered his vehicle and locked himself inside, according to the Poplar Bluff Police Department.
A second officer arrived on scene and emergency medical services personnel were requested. Police say the person refused medical treatment.
After the person talked with EMS, police say his barricaded himself in the vehicle and refused verbal commands to roll down the window. Police say the person begin revving the engine.
Officers removed both front windows of the vehicle to try to arrest the person.
That’s when the person accelerated in reverse nearly striking an officer, according to the Poplar Bluff Police Department.
One officer shot his/her weapon and struck the person. The person was pronounced dead by Butler County Coroner Jim Akers.
The person entered a vehicle and refused verbal commands from officers to roll down the window and then locked the doors and begin revving the engine.
Officers removed both front windows of the vehicle to try to arrest the person.
Then, the person began moving the vehicle, nearly striking an officer, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Clark Parrott.
The officer shot his/her weapon and struck the person.
Both officers involved have been placed on adminsitrative leave. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was requested to investigate the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol, Butler County Sheriff’s Department, Butler County Coroner’s Office and Butler County EMS assisted.
