11-year-old girl faces charge, charges pending aginst another girl after school threat in Paducah

PADUCAH, Ky. (KBSI) – One 11-year-old girl faces a charge and charges are pending against a second 11-year-old girl after police investigated a threat against St. Mary schools.

Paducah police received informationfrom the Ballard County Sheriff’s Department late Sunday evening regarding a threat against St. Mary schools.

Paducah police detectives worked to determine the validity of the threat.

Detectives notified St. Mary Schools administration of the potential threat, and administrators elected to close schools on Monday, Dec. 12.

Detectives worked through the night and identified that two 11-year-old girls who were involved.

The detectives determined the girls were participating in a group chat and made comments regarding a school shooting.

However, the investigation revealed they did not have a plan or the means to cause harm to the schools.

One girl was charged early Monday morning with second-degree terroristic threatening and released to her guardian.

Charges are pending against the second girl.

Neither girl is enrolled at St. Mary schools.
