2 southeast MO teachers receive classroom funding for newsroom, textbooks
(KBSI) – Two southeast Missouri teachers received grants through WGU’s Missouri “Fund My Classroom Initiative.”
A third-grade teacher, Kimber Parks of Orchard Drive Elementary in Jackson, received a $2,360 grant to create a classroom news channel and Michaella Gantz, a fourth-grade teacher at Kelso C-7 Elementary in Benton, received a $300 grant for new sets of guided reading material for her classroom.
Parks will be able to start a news channel for her classroom with funding from the grant. Items being funded through the grant include a Go Pro Camera with a memory card, a Smart TV with a wall mount, a green screen and a MacBook.
Gantz will use funding she received to provide students with a new set of high-quality reading material, ensuring that every student has a book to read along during guided reading sessions.
The innovative classroom projects were among 44 across Missouri chosen by WGU Missouri to receive funding. The nonprofit, fully online university issued a call in early March for K-12 teachers across the state to nominate proposed classroom projects by April 14 for the opportunity to receive full or partial funding through its “Fund My Classroom” initiative. Nearly 200 nominations were received statewide.
