5 injured in 4-vehicle crash in Saline County

SALINE COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – Five people were injured in a crash Tuesday on Route 34 in Saline County.

It happened about 7:29 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15 on Route 34 at West End Road, according to Illinois State Police.

Melea J. L. Moss, 20, of Harrisburg, Ill. was driving a 2018 black Dodge Journey northbound on Illinois 34 near West End Road passing multiple vehicles, according to ISP.

Eric B. McCollum, 36, of Benton, Ill. was driving a 2018 White Honda Civic southbound near the same location.

McCollem noticed Moss was in his lane and swerved off of the roadway, according to ISP. However, Moss sideswiped McCollum’s vehicle and then hit a 2007 black Mercury Milan driven by John E. Brown, 62, of Carrier Mills head on, according to ISP.

James L. Suttner, 75, of Ridgway was driving a 2020 white Dodge Ram (pulling a trailer and Polaris). He struck the wrecked vehicles in the roadway, according to ISP.

Brown was taken to a regional hospital with injuries.

The other drivers were all transported to a local hospital with injuries.

A passenger in Suttner’s vehicle was also taken to a local hospital with injuries.

Moss was issued a citation for reckless driving and improper passing on the left – unsafe to oncoming traffic.
