71st Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo kicks off Wednesday
SIKESTON, Mo. (KBSI)- The 71st Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo kicks off August 9 and lasts until August 12.
Sikeston Chairman Ethan Vasquez says opening night and Saturday night the rodeo has sold out.
Many people from all over the country come to the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo, from Rodeo Queens to Bull Fighters.
Bullfighter Dekevis Jordan says he’s going on eight years of participating in bullfighting, a passion he can’t let go of.
“It’s an adrenaline rush, it’s awesome, it’s dangerous of course but I love it,” said Jordan.
For most cowboys, bull fighters and barrel racers alike, rodeo isn’t just a career, but a way of life.
“Oh, rodeo means the world to me,” said Jordan. “I could say it saved my life. I could say it gave me a path. I could go on all day talking about what it’s done for me.”
Rodeo queens and clowns at the rodeo want to spark excitement with entertainment for all of the fans.
Haley Peters is the 2023 Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo Queen and says she looks forward to the rodeo every year.
“The Sikeston Rodeo has been around for 71 years so it’s just a big rodeo itself,” said Peters. “And it’s really exciting and lots of people come to it, I love coming to it, I’ve been almost every year, since I’ve been born.”
Part of the Rodeo Queens’ duties is to carry the sponsor flags and entertain their fans. Tap here for more info.
