Family gets new home thanks to PORCH Initiative
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A family sees the dream of owning their own home come true thanks to their own determination and the help of the PORCH Initiative.
Thursday, the PORCH Initiative opened up a home for a hard working family at 1140 South Pacific, just the latest renovation for the porch initiative, a non profit organization.
The PORCH Initiative is on a mission to transform south Cape and bring hope to families in the community.
The community gathered Thursday afternoon to tour the newly renovated home, hardly recognizable from it’s earlier state. Those here include families who already know what it means to own a porch renovation, families like Joel Hamlin.
“It means the world to us it’s (a) great, great organization,” said Hamlin.
Hamlin purchased a home last year. Now he volunteers to help other families.
So far PORCH has helped five families move into their own home. When thE one on south Pacific sells, that will make six.
Executive Director Tameka Randle explains how PORCH gives families like the Hamlin’s the tools and education they need to change their lives, and from there pour into others.
“The Hamlin family has been so wonderful we assisted them in first time homeowner process and they’ve been great getting others into volunteering getting others involved in first time homeowners and every time we ask them to show up and participate they are willing to do so and they bring their whole family,” said Randle.
Hamlin says paying it forward simply feels like the natural thing to do, bringing full circle the spirit of hope.
“Since day one, we love it,” he said.
