‘Adventure Tails’ Program brings retired residents and shelter dogs together

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A retirement community was all smiles and tail wags as they got a visit from a four-legged companion.

SEMO Pets of Cape Girardeau and Newbridge retirement facility have come together for the adventure tails program.

Every other Monday from 10am-4pm residents at Newbridge get a visit from a furry friend.

SEMO Pets bring a dog that’s waiting to be adopted to spend the whole day getting attention and loves from the residents.

Holly Seyer is the Sales Director at Newbridge retirement facility. She says residents get to experience having a pet without the responsibility of actually owning one.

It kind of fulfills the residents needs and wants of wanting that animal and having that love and compassion and care,” said Seyer.

All the residents enjoy the dogs but one resident in particular, ‘Chuck’ Maddox says the program really brings him joy.

“Ya know I enjoy doing it, I enjoy seeing them and watching them.”

Animals have hearts, and they have minds and they need love too,” said Maddox.

Reese is the dog who paid residents a visit Monday. She is under a year old and very sweet. She’s available for adoption right now through semopets.org.
