Baptist Health of Paducah offers pre-med summer program

PADUCAH, Ky. (KBSI) – Enrollment is now open for the summer pre-med academy program.
The program is offered through Baptist Health of Paducah. The goal of the program is to provide support and guidance to college students pursuing a career in medicine, while allowing them to build relationships with current physicians. This will be the eighth year the program has been running.
Baptist Health of Paducah’s medical director Blair Tolar talks about the program.
“Its an eight-week program that we host here on campus and some of our outlined clinics for college students that are aspiring to go to medical school, so they are pre-med students on pre-med tracks and hoping to gain access to a medical school. And it’s a shadowing program, it’s an opportunity for them to experience multiple specialties, multiple clinics, multiple hospital departments and just see what all is out there in regard to healthcare and specifically in physician experiences.”
All students who complete the program will be awarded a thousand-dollar scholarship.
To be eligible for Pre-Med Academy, application must meet the following criteria:
- High school completion
- Enrolled in a university with at least one semester of college work completed.
- Submit a transcript from the latest semester indicating a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- Three letters of recommendations
- A 400-word essay on why the student feels they should be selected for this program.
Applications for the program are due March 15.
