BBB tips for door-to-door salespeople

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Saying no can be hard for many people, especially if someone is at your door trying to sell you something.

Better Business Bureau Regional Director Whitney Quick says that some door-to-door salespeople are legit, but others could be not.

‘Some salespeople may not be properly licensed or are not selling a legitimate product multi-level marketing businesses sometimes recruit new employees door to door,” said Quick.

Quick says that a legitimate salesperson will be able to show proof of their company by the likes of a business card.

If you are still in doubt don’t be afraid to give their company a call.

“Consumers need to be wary of doing business with people door to door salespeople who are unable to verify their identity or the company or if they use high-pressure sales tactics or ask for immediate cash payment all of these are potential warning signs,” said Quick.

Also, Quick says saying no to a salesperson is more than enough,

And never let a salesperson inside your home.

“But a legitimate salesperson will understand if you politely and firmly tell them that you’re not interested,” said Quick.
