Capaha Park’s Garden of Roses gets new name
CAPE GIRARDEAU Mo. (KBSI) – Capaha Park’s Rose Garden has a new name to go along with its completed renovation.
Park Division Manager Kaed Horrell says, “We wanted to call it the Capaha Park Garden because there are other plants as well here and it’s not just the roses.”
The Garden also holds a series of new additions along with the new name.
“Some of the improvements that were made originally- it was actually brought down about 4 ft. The whole goal was to make it more accessible to the community.” According to Horrell.
Parks and Recreation began renovations last year, with most of the project completed last October.
He adds, “We just have a little bit of work yet to do on the fountain back here behind me. We will still need to plant a few more plantings in the spring but for the most part it is complete.”
The city plans to hold a ribbon cutting for Capaha Park’s final change, this spring.
Improvements for the garden, to be more accessible to the community, were funded by a citywide parks sales tax that was passed in 2018.
